Position Summary

The Communication Manager is central to BYU-Pathway Worldwide’s ability to communicate with, outreach to, and build community with its distributed audience of thousands of current and prospective students, Church-service missionaries, ecclesiastical leaders, and other partners located in more than 500 locations throughout the world.

Main areas of responsibility include management of content development, editing, and oversight; messaging strategy and initiatives; and marketing and social media. This position will also manage a team of full- and part-time employees.

A summary of specific job duties include:

Manage Content Creation & Development
• Create and manage a messaging strategy and plan to audiences affiliated with each of BYU-Pathway Worldwide’s programs.
• Provide substantive content edits (not just proofreading) for all written communication.
• Create content for executive-level initiatives, including video messages and emails from the President, presentations, reports, and devotionals.
• Manage the creation of written content for marketing initiatives, video scripts, and social media.

Manage Websites & Associated Development
• Oversee the creation and maintenance of BYU-Pathway Worldwide’s websites.
• Guide efforts to improve the quality of the web experience.
• Ensure blog content is related to and supports stated objectives.
• Track analytics and performance of websites, provide data about use and effectiveness of websites, and make adjustments as needed.

Manage Marketing & Social Media Efforts
• Oversee the strategy, development, and implementation of content on BYU-Pathway’s social
media pages.
• Identify strategic marketing opportunities that align with BYU-Pathway’s objectives, future
initiatives, and administrative priorities.
• Manage annual marketing plan with heavy emphasis on social media promotion and advertising (primarily using Facebook Ads Manager.)
• Manage BYU-Pathway’s video content, including the strategy, scripting, and production.
• Lead efforts to maximize search engine optimization (SEO).

Manage, Mentor, & Train Employees
• Manage and mentor a team of full-time and part-time production employees
• Ensure content created by employees supports BYU-Pathway’s mission.
• Provide substantive content edits (not just proofreading) for all written communication.

Work Location:
The BYU-Pathway Worldwide team is currently transitioning from Rexburg, Idaho, to Salt Lake City, Utah. If the selected candidate lives in Rexburg or the surrounding area, he/she will work from the BYU-Idaho campus until June 2018 and would then relocate to Salt Lake City. If the selected candidate lives elsewhere, he/she will relocate to Salt Lake City upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in communication or a similar field plus five or more years of relevant work experience. The incumbent must possess refined and practiced communication skills, have a strong understanding of how to write for a target audience and think like a user, and be educated in effective marketing and social media strategies and practices.

Recommended Program Knowledge:
• Microsoft Office
• Basecamp (or experience using another project management tool)
• Marketing Cloud (or experience using another email messaging tool)
• Microsoft CRM (or experience using another customer relationship management tool)
• Skipio (or experience using another text messaging tool)
• Adobe Creative Suite (basic understanding)

Other Skills:
• Superior written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to provide substantive content edits
• Ability to deeply analyze communication needs and create effective messaging and solutions
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and coordination skills
• Experience using a content management system for websites
• Experience using email and text messaging systems (Marketing Cloud, Constant Contact, or similar)
• Understanding of the principles of marketing and effective social media strategies
• Experience using social media as a marketing tool
• Demonstrated knowledge of technology as a communication tool
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines

Work Schedule

Typically Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.
