Position Summary

The Content & Messaging Specialist is central to BYU-Pathway Worldwide’s ability to communicate, outreach to, and build community with its distributed audience of thousands of current and prospective students, Church-service missionaries, ecclesiastical leaders, and other partners located in more than 500 locations throughout the world.

Main areas of responsibility include oversight of BYU-Pathway’s messaging efforts, as well as copywriting for a variety of BYU-Pathway communication and marketing needs.

A summary of specific job duties include:

Create & Distribute Messaging
• Write, coordinate, and distribute regular messaging to primary constituents (via email and text messaging).
• Strategize targeted messages that current and new students should receive at specific points during their enrollment.
• Manage distribution of all messages via Marketing Cloud (email), Microsoft CRM (list management), and Skipio (text messaging).
• Maintain editorial calendar listing dates and content for recurring messages and tasks.
• Track open and read rates of distributed messages, draw conclusions, and suggest modifications based on the data.

Create Content for Blog, Newsroom, Annual Report, and More
• Oversee the creation of content for the BYU-Pathway blog.
• Assist in the creation of written content for marketing needs, such as the BYU-Pathway website, presentations, advertisements, and social media.
• Edit content created by part-time employees.
• Develop and implement BYU-Pathway contributor network.

Supervise & Mentor Part-Time Employees
• Work with the Communication Manager to mentor a copywriting production team of part-time employees.
• Hold regular meetings, trainings, and impromptu discussions to teach organizational processes, procedures, and protocol; terminology guidelines; and the process of effective writing.

Work Location:
The BYU-Pathway Worldwide team is currently transitioning from Rexburg, Idaho, to Salt Lake City, Utah. If the selected candidate lives in Rexburg or the surrounding area, he/she will work from the BYU-Idaho campus until June 2018 and would then relocate to Salt Lake City. If the selected candidate lives elsewhere, he/she will relocate to Salt Lake City upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in communications or another relevant field. Two or more years of relevant work experience is also necessary. The incumbent must possess exceptional writing skills and have a strong understanding of how to write for a target audience and think like a user.

Recommended Program Knowledge:
• Microsoft Office
• Basecamp (or experience using another project management tool)
• Marketing Cloud (or experience using another email messaging tool)
• Microsoft CRM (or experience using another customer relationship management tool)
• Skipio (or experience using another text messaging tool)
• Adobe Creative Suite (basic understanding)

Other Skills:
• Superior written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to analyze communication needs and create effective messaging
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and coordination skills
• Demonstrated knowledge of technology as a communication tool
• Strong ability to mentor a team

Work Schedule

Typically Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm.
